Weekly Prayer – The Arthur Rank Centre

Loving and faithful God,
we give you thanks for the rhythm of rural life; for fields being sown, for lambs born into spring’s chill, for the patient, hopeful labour of our farming communities.
Bless those working the land this season; strengthen their hands, steady their hearts, and renew their hope in times of challenge.
We pray for our churches in rural places; each one a beacon of your presence.
Uphold lay leaders and clergy alike, especially those serving across scattered rural settings.
Grant them joy in small signs of growth, and courage when the way feels hard. May their ministry bear fruit in season.
We thank you for those called to pioneer ministry in rural communities;
for those nurturing fresh expressions of church, building trust through community presence, and listening deeply to local stories.
Bless their imagination, their patience, and their courage to step beyond the familiar.
May new forms of worship and witness take root and flourish where they are planted.
We lift before you the trustees of The Arthur Rank Centre as they meet this week in Barford.
Guide them with wisdom and clarity, that their oversight strengthens our work and reflects your calling upon us.
We give thanks for the Rural Mission and Ministry Course planned for May;
for the good number of applicants, the excellent contributors, and the opportunity to equip and inspire.
May this course be a source of confidence, renewal and connection for all who attend.
We continue to hold in prayer our Germinate Leadership participants, reflecting now on their recent gathering.
As they prepare for work shadowing, deepen their insight and ignite their calling afresh.
We pray too for those considering the next intake, that you would draw the right people forward for the 2025–26 journey now open for applications.
We rejoice in the quiet and sometimes surprising ways your Spirit is at work;
in lives being stirred by the whisper of your voice, in the call to mission being heard afresh, and in new paths being explored.
Thank you for those stepping out in faith, for pilgrim hearts seeking Christ, and for glimpses of your Kingdom breaking through in our rural communities.
We lift to you our colleagues across the charity sector; often unseen, often stretched, yet daily working for the good of others.
Sustain them with your grace.
And we pray for our staff team based in Barford, Warwickshire.
Amidst the emails, decisions, deadlines and daily tasks, may your Spirit rest upon them, guiding, encouraging, and bringing light.
We offer all these prayers in the name of Christ as the sower of seeds, the shepherd of lambs, the pioneer of new paths, and the hope of the harvest to come.

Sustainable Farming Initiative suddenly suspended

If you’re looking for context and understanding of the struggles for farmers… this will help explain the latest setback.

In a guest blog, Sarah Hulme reports on the repercussions of a recent government decision to halt funding for sustainability initiatives on farms

Without any warning, on 11 March, the government pulled the application process for a key environmental funding stream for farmers, saying the budget has been spent[1]. The Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) was designed to help farmers transition towards sustainable and nature-friendly farming practices – growing food in ways that protect nature and reduce the impact caused by intensive farming – as a key part of the drive towards net zero. These changes require costly interventions and, with no instant fix, these need investment and security for the longer term if farmers are to make this transition. It had been a central strand of the post-Brexit farming payments system.

Lenten Prayers

Gracious and loving God,
As we step into this holy season of Lent, we pause to remember the journey of your Son—his time in the wilderness, his steadfast faith, and his deep love for the world.
In these coming weeks, may we, too, find moments of stillness amidst the demands of life. Help us to embrace the disciplines of Lent: to reflect, to repent, and to renew our hearts in service to you and to one another.
We pray especially for the rural communities we serve, for those working the land in this unpredictable season, for churches offering hospitality and hope, and for all who feel isolated or burdened. May your presence be their strength, and your Spirit their guide.
As we journey towards the cross, help us to walk with humility, compassion, and courage, ever seeking your kingdom in our daily lives.
In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Amen.
